The team at D. Mark Holman, CPA can make your life easier
with sound accounting, tax and financial services. "In this day and time,
people are real busy. We can save you money and make your life easier by
professionally streamlining your accounting system, providing tax planning
and handling any IRS issues," Owner D. Mark Holman states.
As a full-service accounting firm, D. Mark Holman, CPA
provides clients with efficient, convenient, and high-tech services for
business and individual clients. Some of the services that Holman and his
staff feature to simplify your accounting and tax needs include no-charge
phone consultations, remote access through a secure Internet connection,
pick-up and delivery of financial documents such as payroll, documents for
monthly general ledgers, tax returns and other data, and on-site help with
computerized accounting situations. "We provide services to clients that are
convenient, easy for them, and show we’ll go the extra mile, such as picking
up forms and materials, as well as delivering them," Holman states.
What makes the firm different is the fact that it isn’t
your typical ‘stuffed shirt’ kind of accounting firm. The staff dress
casually and quickly respond to clients’ needs. Holman opened his practice
in 1987 and now serves more than 600 clients. He first started in the
accounting field while in high school in 1980 when he worked for Al LaGrone
in Arab, AL. "I did a lot of individual tax returns… maybe 500-plus my first
year," Holman says." "I learned a lot about how to deal with clients from Al
at a very young age." Then, he later partnered with his mentor ‘Tall’ Paul
T. Putman before venturing out on his own. "Paul was a huge factor in me
becoming an accountant, and he taught me valuable things, such as ethics and
how to be fair and honest with people," Holman says.
These principles learned from his mentors carried over
into how Holman runs his business. The team at D. Mark Holman, CPA will do
everything in its power to help clients be more profitable, pay less income
tax, and plan for the future. Each team member is a factor in the day-to-day
operations, and follow Holman’s mission of understanding tax laws to
minimize people’s tax liabilities.
Holman has extensive experience dealing with builders and
sub-contractors in Madison County. "We are a great asset in helping our
clients secure construction financing and lines of credit," Holman says. "We
can also develop a detailed job cost system so builders know in real time
what costs they have in a house."
Tim Clark of Franklin Homes and Colby Development says,
"Over the last 15 years, Mark Holman and his staff have provided accounting
services for both of my companies. Their instant service with exceptional
knowledge of current laws is unequaled. Mark Holman does not work for our
companies. He is part of our companies."
Mike Friday of Woodland Homes of Huntsville says, "Mark
has been with us through the tremendous growth of our company. His ability
to analyze the numbers has been a huge help. He also takes a common sense
approach to financial and tax planning."
Dewey Brazelton of Brazelton Properties says," Since
1988, Mark and his staff have provided excellent accounting services to us.
He has guided us through complex tax laws with sound, tax-saving
strategies."

says. "We’re excited about the individuality of the furniture, plus it’s

Creative Catering*
Creating Memorable Events
Owner David King of Creative Catering can make your
wedding, backyard barbeque, corporate function, or any special event
memorable with outstanding food, attention to details, and strong customer
service. King first started his business in June 1998, and credits his
success to doing the basics: providing good food, good service, and the best
pricing. Staying true to his company’s name, King promises creativity across
the board by developing a blueprint for your event, customizing menus, and
providing guidance and suggestions with American and ethnic cuisine.
Thanks to the many happy and satisfied clients, Creative
Catering enjoys continued success. "I have received many ‘Thank You’ notes
for our work, and I have many wonderful memories from the events we have
served," King says. One wedding client states, "We wanted to thank you and
your staff for the superb job you did catering our daughter’s wedding
reception at Greystone Mansion in Auburn. The food, presentation, and
service were exemplary. We were very impressed and extremely pleased that
you were able to travel 250 miles and put on such an impressive display."
Another wedding client adds, "Thank you so very much for
a fantastic job! Everyone is still raving over the wonderful food! You made
a very special day extra special for all of us!"
As the exclusive caterer for The Wedding Group in
Huntsville, King can provide a variety of services and cuisines to make your
special day an event to remember. "Creative Catering continues to serve our
now-famous ‘Signature Items’ …Carve-to-Order stations featuring pork
tenderloin, turkey breast, roast beef and ham; Old Southern home-cooked
favorites, such as scalloped potatoes; and extraordinary fruit and vegetable
carvings. But client interest in personalizing their event through the use
of family-favorite dishes or ethnic-themed meals has challenged us to grow!
And we have risen to the occasion," King says.
He continues, "We have recently introduced a new trend
for our clients by charbroiling our own hand-cut filet mignon steaks wrapped
in bacon. This beef entrée is high quality, yet its cost is comparative to a
ribeye steak. This allows us to upscale the event without greatly
increasing the price. Our customers are, literally, ‘eating this up’!"
Whether Creative Catering is catering an upscale wedding
reception, a large corporate picnic, or a backyard barbeque, King and his
staff give it their all. "We give all of our clients our undivided
attention, from the small jobs to the big," says King.
A recent corporate client states, "Thank you for all your
hard word and dedication to our event. I know that you take our event as
seriously as if it were the White House, and I appreciate all you do. I read
the evaluations and there wasn’t one that did not mention how wonderful the
food was. Thank you again."
Creative Catering is located at 611 Winchester Road. To

McMullen Cove is masterfully planned, and includes a variety of ownership

Fowler Auction and Real Estate Service, Inc.*
Get Top Dollar for your Property with Fowler Auction
and Real Estate Services
With more than 160 years of combined experience, the
staff at Fowler Auction and Real Estate Service, Inc. can help clients get
the most for their property with full-service auction services for residential and commercial property, personal property, business
liquidations, and commercial, industrial, and farm equipment. Chief
Executive Officer/President and Auctioneer Mickey Fowler brings more than
25 years of experience to the auctioning block, and, from listening to his
clients, Mickey has a ‘gift’ that gives you an advantage when selling your
property.
Investor, Roy McCrary, states, "Mr. Fowler has a gift, in
that he can look at a piece of property and tell you what you need to do to
get that property prepared for sale. The good thing is he handles it for
you, whether it’s hiring a bulldozer to clean out a ditch, or cutting down
some trees. It’s things that are not very expensive to do, but they make a
big difference in the sale. He’s got a talent for looking at a piece of
property and knowing how to present it to the public to bring the top
dollar."
Today, 90 percent of Fowler’s auctions are real estate,
and they make the sale of your residential/commercial property a
‘stress-free’ process from beginning to end. Farmer, James Newby, says,
"Mickey took the estate and handled it from start to finish. Once I told
Mickey I wanted him to do this job, I didn’t have to do anything else.
Mickey has the most experience of anyone I know, and he does a good job. He
knows the market. He can almost tell you what it’s going to bring before he
sells it."
Mickey is one of 20 auctioneers in Alabama with the
Certified Auctioneer Institute designation, holds the certification of
Accredited Auctioneer Real Estate (AARE), and is a certified Estate
Specialist. "In a matter of hours, Fowler Auction converts your assets into
cash," Mickey says. "We believe we can do a better job. Because of my
experience and extensive training, I can evaluate property and give you a
very, very close estimate of its selling price."
Fowler Auction provides you with top-notch services, such
as monitors with images of the property during an auction, and online
bidding if you cannot attend on site. "We use Internet bidding, which allows
potential buyers to bid prior to the auction via the Internet," states Chief
Financial Officer, Betsye Fowler Spencer.
In addition, Fowler Auction’s web site is user-friendly
and a great way for people to learn about properties up for auction. "Our
web site is very active," Betsye says. "People go there to get information
about upcoming auctions. It’s a non-threatening way to get a lot of
information about the services provided by Fowler Auction. It is very
user-friendly and helps people get to know us."

Steve Byrd, Russ Russell Commercial Real Estate*
"Buy
land. They’re not making any more of it." ...Mark Twain
Inspired by his love and respect of the land, Steve Byrd
has joined Russ Russell Commercial Real Estate as a Land Specialist. Steve
specializes in commercial/residential land, as well as agricultural and
transitional land development.
Steve is a Huntsville, AL native, a graduate of Grissom
High School, and has more than 10 years of commercial and residential real
estate experience. Previously a farmer himself, Steve knows the value of
land and its financial and sentimental aspects. As a Land Specialist, Steve
also focuses on land assemblage. One recent example of Steve’s
accomplishments in this area involved 10 different owners and 13 tracts of
land. Steve was able to assemble the land to in to a more marketable
offering to increase property value and salability.
Steve is also a candidate to become an Accredited Land
Consultant (ALC) as designated within the Realtors Land Institute (RLI,
www.RLILand.com)
in 2007. To acquire this designation, a candidate must meet stringent
requirements including Land University courses, field experience, and
involvement with and service to RLI. This is a unique certification in that
only eight REALTORS in the state of Alabama currently hold this distinction.
Upon completion, Steve will be the only Accredited Land Consultant in North
Alabama.
In-depth training and coursework required for
certification as Accredited Land Consultant include Land Development,
Site Selection, Transitional Land, Land 101, Fundamentals of Land Brokerage,
Land Investment Analysis, Tax Deferred 1031 Exchanges, Agricultural Land
Brokerage and Marketing, and Creative Land Planning for Profit.
Additionally, candidates must complete $5,000,000 in land transactions
(sale, purchase, or lease) or a minimum of 25 separate land transactions, of
which no more than 80 percent involve residential lot sales.
In additional to being one of only 22 Alabama members in
the Realtors Land Institute, Steve is also a member of the National
Association of Realtors and the Huntsville Board of Realtors, as well as
participates in the Huntsville Land Trust, Lions Club, and Huntsville
Botanical Garden organizations.
Steve’s goal is to make land a more profitable investment
for both those buying and those selling. It is his connections with the land
and with farming that brought him to his current position as Land
Specialist. He genuinely felt he could make a difference by helping both
buyers and sellers manage their investments. Steve’s clients understand and
appreciate that connection.
Steve subscribes to the simple but true wisdom of Mark
Twain’s "Buy land. They’re not making any more of it." He also
recognizes that the business of marketing real estate goes far beyond a
piece of property that is just to be bought and sold. Many times there are
sentimental emotions that are attached to the land that has been an integral
part of individual lives. Transactions must be conducted with respect and
sensitivity to the needs of both the seller and the buyer.
"It is my love and respect of the land that led me to
pursue the area of Land Specialist," Steve says. "I will continue to show my
clients the courtesy that I expect as a landowner and seller myself."
Russ Russell Commercial Real Estate is located at 923-C Merchants Walk in
Huntsville. To schedule an appointment with Steve or for more information,

On July 23, 2006, Jade Communications, ERC, and
Huntsville, AL, lost a great friend and a very talented young technician,
Dustin Wayne Lassiter. Owner, Ken McFarlen of Jade Communications, started
working with Dustin before opening his business in 1999, and Dustin always
held a special place in Ken’s heart. Dustin was not only a great asset to
the telecommunications world and Jade Communications, but he was also Ken’s
nephew.
Dustin came to work for Ken in 2002 and wanted to learn
the communications business. He was a hard worker, a fast learner, and

knowledge, and envied his youth!"
A friend of the family states, "Dustin was always one of

polite, and a very sweet young man. I never heard an ill word come out of
his mouth. Dustin was always a positive-thinking person who loved his family
very much."
Dan Morgan, a coworker at Jade Communications, remembers
Dustin as a joy to be around. He says, "I enjoyed working with Dustin. He
was a joy to be around. I will always remember Dustin. Dustin was a very
nice young man that made my time at work so much more enjoyable."

comes to where they will go for service. "Individuals needing a prosthesis
or orthotic should tell their doctor to send them to AOP, because we care
about them personally," he states.
AOP first opened in 1977 in Huntsville and has added two
additional locations in Decatur and Hamilton, as well as a weekly clinic at
the Cullman Regional Medical Center. These facilities offer clients a
variety of technologies for properly fitting prosthetics and orthotics, such
as the Tracer CAD System and the Omega Ring. "At AOP, we use three or four
different methods of fitting for a prosthesis to get the exact fit for every
patient," Swanson says. "We do several test fittings, evaluate, and adjust
with each fitting. In the final ‘dynamic, weight-bearing fitting’, the
patient walks with the prosthesis and we do a ‘dynamic alignment’."
The AOP staff consists of 10 certified prosthetists,
eight certified orthotists, and six team members that are amputees. "Our
practitioners each have 15-plus years of experience, our main practitioners
have more than 25 years of experience, and the entire staff has more than
200 years combined experience," Swanson says. "In addition to a nine-month
course (equivalent to a Master’s Program) completed by AOP staff at
Northwestern University, continuing education is provided regularly and
continually by national companies in the field of Orthotics and Prosthesis."
Patients, such as Floyd ‘Buddy’ Terry and Alex Koslow,
appreciate the care and services that AOP provides. Terry, an AOP patient
for 13 years, says, "Mr. Jerry and the staff have always been nice to me,
willing to take the time to do it right, and to do what needs to be done."
Alex Koslow, an AOP patient for 12 years says, "I really like everyone at
AOP. They do a great job fitting and adjusting my prosthesis. I am currently
working with my technician and Mr. Jerry about swimming with my prosthesis,
and they are providing me with several options."
Anyone needing a prosthetic or orthotic has a choice when
it comes to where he or she will go for service. For the AOP Advantage,

White's Refrigeration*
Air Conditioning & Heating Repairs, Service &
Installation
New federally mandated changes have altered the heating,
ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry, and you can count on
White’s Refrigeration to exceed your needs with quality systems,
installation, service, and repairs. A professional HVAC specialist is vital
with the rising cost of energy. "If your HVAC system is operating properly
and functioning at its highest efficiency" says Brian White, owner of
White’s Refrigeration, "It will save you on your monthly utility bills and
prolong the life of your HVAC system."
Brian’s father, John White, founded White’s Refrigeration
in 1956, based on the key principles of excellence, honesty, and
reliability. And, for almost 50 years, this family-owned business has grown.
In 1982, John passed the business to Brian, who hopes to pass the business
to his son, Johnny Ray. Brian says his father’s business principles
reflect their success: ‘We perform our service on time, as scheduled. We are
well-trained professionals who do the work correctly, and when there is a
problem in which we have a responsibility, we make it right for the client’.
Since January 2006, the EPA has mandated that all HVAC
equipment must be a minimum of 13 SEER (most currently operate at 10 – 12
SEER). By 2010, HVAC manufacturers will no longer be allowed to produce
equipment with R22 refrigerant. The new refrigerant, 410-A (also called
Puron®), is now the industry standard. White’s Refrigeration is proud to
offer the # 1 products on the market from Carrier. And this equipment is
supported by the best service around. The Carrier HVAC systems are reliable,
durable, strong, and energy efficient. Carrier has been using Puron® in all
their 12 SEER and above units since 1997. "Many manufacturers of HVAC
equipment and service companies are not prepared for these federally
mandated changes," says White. "Our staff receives extensive and regular
training from Carrier that is paid for by White’s Refrigeration. Our staff
is professionally trained to handle the federally mandated changes. White’s
refrigeration is READY!"
All Carrier units feature the environmentally sound Puron®
refrigerant. Carrier’s exclusive Silencer System II™ ensures extra-quiet
operation by maximizing air-flow and minimizing vibrations. WeatherArmor
Ultra™ protection and a galvanized steel cabinet prevent corrosion. And the
Infinity™ 19 heat pump has an efficiency rating of 19.0 SEER. This energy
efficiency in the Infinity™ 19 heat pump means that for every dollar spent
to cool a home using a 10.0 heat pump, a 19.0 SEER heat pump should cost the
homeowner about 53 cents.
White’s Refrigeration offers a Planned Maintenance
Agreement in order to assist you in maintaining the efficiency of your HVAC
systems and identifying problems before they become major expenses. This
program provides:
-
Prolonged HVAC system life – and ‘peace of mind’ –
through a complete year-round maintenance program
-
A properly running HVAC system functioning at its
highest efficiency, thereby saving money
-
A 10% discount on any repairs made during the year –
spring and fall
-
Preferred status on all service and/or emergency calls
with no overtime charges on labor
White’s Refrigeration is located at 1797 Sportsman Lane
NW in Huntsville, and can be reached at (256) 837-6510. Or visit the web

Custom Cuts Professional Outdoor Services*
Total Lawn Care Services from Custom Cuts Professional Outdoor Services
Owner Jimmy Stubbs of Custom Cuts Professional Outdoor
Services has been providing clients in the Tennessee Valley with a total
package of customized lawn care service for the last three years. Stubbs
opened the business in July 2003 to give clients top-quality, professional
services, such as lawn maintenance, installation and service for irrigation
systems, and leaf removal in the Fall/Winter seasons. Stubbs started in the
lawn care industry in 2001 while working a full-time job for a
pharmaceutical company. After two years in the industry, he decided to
venture out on his own. "My first clients where mostly friends and family,
even our family dentist, and we have grown to more than 44 weekly clients,"
Stubbs says.
What drove Stubbs to start Custom Cuts Professional
Outdoor Services was his desire to support his family doing something he
enjoyed. "I really enjoy the business, and I’m thankful that I can provide
for my family, as well as my employees’ families," he says. His hardworking
demeanor also translates into providing clients with professional customer
service. "Our goal to is to provide clients with convenient, top-notch
outdoor services, and we strive to meet our clients’ needs at all times."
Custom Cuts Professional Outdoor Services goes a step
beyond by offering monthly maintenance contracts for convenient invoicing to
clients, and sets itself apart with professional attire and equipment. "When
we meet with a new client, we provide them with a written estimate then
provide a written contract with what services will be included on a monthly
basis," Stubbs says. "The crew is dressed professionally with a standard
company shirt and the trucks have our information on them so our clients
know we mean business." Stubbs also provides each crewmember with a client
notebook that contains the contracts so the crew knows what needs to be done
at clients’ locations.
The monthly maintenance contracts are based on a 12-month
period that typically includes services, such as mowing, trimming shrubs,
pulling weeds, and replacing annual flowers with seasonal colors. Stubbs
also offers additional services, such as installing and servicing irrigation
systems and sod services.
In the fall/winter months, Custom Cuts Professional
Outdoor Services can provide clients with leaf removal services that can be
set up on a three or four month contract. "We will come out to our client’s
house and bag, remove, and haul off all the leaves on a weekly basis,"
Stubbs states.
Another fall/winter service that is available is core
aeration and overseeding for fescue lawns. "During the summer months the
fescue lawns can thin out, and with aeration and overseeding, we can help
your old lawn look new again," he says.
Custom Cuts Professional Outdoor Services provides
clients in Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County areas with lawn care
services that are customized to their needs. For more information, contact

The Gulas Group*
Working Smart with The
Gulas Group
Since November 1989, The Gulas Group has been helping
people work smarter with assessments, workshops, and coaching for developing
human potential. Owner Ted Gulas formed the Alabama-based company after
working for an international manufacturer. While working for the
manufacturer, he discovered a workflow skills gap, and he decided to focus
his business on helping both workers and companies achieve their goals.
Gulas offers a variety of development opportunities that
focus on working more effectively with today’s popular workload software,
such as Microsoft® Outlook®, Lotus Notes™,
and Novell GroupWise. "The Working Sm@rt platform of workshops helps people
prioritize tasks, put the right tasks with the right process, then put the
two together and focus on how they can achieve better results," Gulas says.
"Working Sm@rt with Microsoft Outlook is one of the most requested workshops
in the Working Sm@rt platform."
The program is tailored to workgroups and teams,
including managers, technical and sales professionals, supervisors,
administrators, and project leaders who use Microsoft Outlook and feel they
are not optimizing the software. "The class is needed because people are
overwhelmed, and feel there is too little time in which to do it all," Gulas
states. "We are tech rich, but time poor. In conclusion, it helps people get
home faster to spend more time with family and establish work-life balance."
Topics covered in the workshop include how to record,
retain, and retrieve information quickly and easily from Microsoft Outlook;
set up protocols and control for handling e-mail; integrate and proactively
use the Contacts, Journal, Calendar, and Task folders; identify and reduce
major sources of interruption; and control the clutter and work from a clean
desk.
Some of the benefits attendees get from the event are
daily time gains of 70-plus minutes a day, better ability to manage and
prioritize key tasks, improved communications, better delegation and
follow-up skills, greater sense of accomplishment, reduced stress levels,
and lasting life-style balance. "Clients are pleased with the results, and
some say things like, ‘I didn’t know Microsoft Outlook could change my
life’," Gulas says.
Gulas provides workshops in a variety of formats, such as
at a company, public events, or webinars, which are very convenient and
effective in today’s busy business world. Webinars are facilitator-led,
interactive Internet sessions that provide attendees with the convenience of
having instructional support, hands-on use of your software at your desktop.
The webinar format for the Working Sm@rt with
Microsoft® Outlook includes a design and
discovery session, a one-hour pre-work session, two 2-hour online sessions a
week apart, post work, extensive Priority Learning Guide, and a follow-up
session four weeks later with six months of coaching.
The ‘Working Sm@rt’ platform of workshops is part of
Priority Management System Inc., a global organization with more than 200
offices like The Gulas Group. For more than 25 years, representatives from
Priority Management Systems Inc., like The Gulas Group, have delivered
thousands of workshops worldwide with spectacular results.

Webs2Impress/AntiquesNearMe.com*
Put a New Spin on Vintage with AntiquesNearMe.com!
Out with the old and in with the new way to search for
vintage antiques! Owner Anna Sue Edwards of Webs2Impress is pleased to
announce the newest web project, AntiquesNearMe.com. This web site is for
businesses and individuals in, or related to, the antiques industry to list
their products or services.
Edwards, who has a love for antiques, decided to start
AntiquesNearMe.com after having a hard time locating nationwide
antique-related information in one centralized web site. "I started
AntiquesNearMe.com, because after searching the Internet, I felt there was
no well-defined online community for antique dealers on a national level,"
Edwards states. "The ones I found were for a city, state, or region and
didn’t offer a search by ZIP code, as well as many other features that
AntiquesNearMe.com now offers."
AntiquesNearMe.com is a quick and simple way to locate
antiques stores, appraisers, collectors, or anything to do with vintage, in
just a couple of clicks of a button. The listing service searches
information that you enter and provides a list of places to help find the
antique you are looking for in your area.
The site features searching by ZIP code, the ability to
post classifieds for the sale of one or more items, and articles about
dealing in antiques. "Eventually, we hope to have national sponsors of
companies who provide antiques-related materials or services, such as
auctioneers, refinishers, restorers, etc.," she says. "Also in the near
future, we plan to offer a search for restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and
RV parks in the local area by ZIP code."
For a limited time, AntiquesNearMe.com is offering to
list your business for FREE for three months. To further promote your
antique-related business or service, you can become one of only 10 sponsors
for maximum exposure for a reduced introductory fee.
Edwards brings more than 11 years of experience in the
web business to AntiquesNearMe.com, and also offers services that include
web site design, hosting, domain name service, and search engine
optimization with Webs2Impress. "The Web is where it’s at, and businesses
need a web site to market their services with a professional product that
represents their organization or business," Edwards says.
Webs2Impress custom builds web sites to fit a client’s
needs, whether it’s a simple web site with just a few pages, or a more
intricate web site with e-commerce, flash, and database features. As part of
her business philosophy, Edwards provides her clients with a complete array
of top-notch services. "We handle all the elements of domain name
registration, web design, graphics manipulation, hosting, and search engine
optimization to help you make your web site seen and look its best," she
says.

ZTV-11, Athens*
Local and Lovin’ It
Since January 2003, WTZT-TV in Athens, AL, known as
ZTV-11, has been local and lovin’ it with shows that focus on local people
and places in the Tennessee Valley. Jamie and Gloria Cooper of Jamie Cooper
Television, Inc. own and operate ZTV-11, as well as host and produce the
morning show, Cooper & Company.
Jamie has been a fixture in local television for 33 years
in North Alabama and Gloria for the last seven. Jamie started in Huntsville
television in 1974 when he worked for Education Television (E-TV) and then
moved to WAAY-TV in 1975. He worked at WAAY-TV for 17 years in a variety of
positions and hosted the WAAY Too Early show, then later went on to start
Cooper & Company in 1999 that aired on WHDF-TV in Florence, and on WAFF-TV
in Huntsville.
What Jamie is most remembered for was his segment on the
WAAY-TV 6pm newscast, Country Rover, which ran in the late 1970s to early
1990s. This segment featured local people and places in the Tennessee
Valley, and almost daily, people ask Jamie about those segments. Jamie
continues that tradition of focusing on local news (ZNN) and events at
ZTV-11 with programming such as Cooper & Company, health, home improvement,
and area church shows. Cooper & Company airs live Tuesday through Friday at
6am, and replays nightly at 9pm. The Country Rover Classics air Mondays at
6am & 9pm. This memorable show highlights what ZTV-11 is all about … local
people and places that are a part of our community.
What has made the station so successful, tripling its
size since 2003, is its local flavor with a mix of entertainment, events,
and area sports. ZTV-11 offers affordable advertising opportunities with
more airtime than other area TV stations to local businesses and churches in
Limestone, Madison, and Morgan counties. "ZTV-11 is real, and that’s what
we’re all about," Jamie says. "We’re real America, and there’s no better
place."
Others can see Jamie and Gloria’s passion for local
television. Pastor John Dees of CrossPointe Church, who is a regular guest
on Cooper & Company, and also hosts his own show on Sunday mornings, enjoys
working with the Coopers. "I’ve had the privilege to be on their show and
I’m constantly amazed at their talent," Dees says. "The concept of local and
lovin’ it is just that … and Jamie and Gloria live it."
ZTV-11 can be found almost everywhere other than Comcast
and DirecTV. If ZTV is not available on your cable network, please call
your provider to request it.
Not only are the Coopers a part of the rare ‘local’
television market, but are now entering the ‘local’ print industry with
their latest venture, featuring Gloria as publisher of Who’s Who In
Athens magazine, due out later this year to continue promoting and
supporting the local community.
For more information on how to either be a guest on
Cooper & Company or advertise with the station, please contact Gloria or
Jamie Cooper at (256) 603-4848, gloriacooper@knology.net,

OH! Bryan's Family Steak House*
It’s Just
Like Old Times
OH! Bryan’s Family Steak House offers folks a
mouth-watering steak dinner set amidst old-fashioned cars and antiques for
an atmosphere that’s just like old times.
Owners Bryan and Valerie Hughes opened their first
restaurant in April 1994 in Mt. Hope, AL and quickly found success. "Our
first location was a small sit-down restaurant that we renovated from an
abandoned gas station that sat about 61 people," Bryan recalls.
Word spread about the great food and atmosphere that OH!
Bryan’s offered, and over the next couple of years, additions were added,
such as a waiting room to accommodate the long line of customers. "Many
customers would travel down from Red Bay and tell us that we needed to open
a restaurant in their town," Bryan says. "In 1997, we opened our second
location in Red Bay. The next year, we sold the restaurant to a former
manager, and our franchise business started."
The Hughes’ sold the Mt. Hope location in 2002 and
retired from the business. After a few years, they decided to return to the
OH! Bryan’s Family Steak House franchise business. Bryan, Valerie, and their
three children moved to Madison and opened the newest location at 100 Plaza
Boulevard.
Now, with seven locations throughout North Alabama, in
cities such as Muscle Shoals, Hamilton, Hartselle, Jasper, and Madison, OH!
Bryan’s Family Steak House continues to provide an old-fashioned atmosphere
with top-quality food. The restaurant specializes in large-cut Ribeye and
New York Strip steaks, and the Soon To Be Famous™ 16-ounce sirloin. These
USDA steaks are cut in-house, by hand, and on a daily basis. In addition to
the great steaks, catfish, and grilled chicken, OH! Bryan’s has a
double-sided salad bar with 38 items.
What makes OH! Bryan’s special is its nostalgic décor
from times past. The Madison location is set up as an old downtown scene
with a dine-in, drive-in theater, as well as a 1955 Thunderbird and a 1958
Corvette that people can dine in while watching movies, a putting green in
the waiting room, and a 1950s Sinclair gas station salad bar, among other
features.
OH! Bryan’s also offers private dining areas for large
parties and corporate functions at no charge. "Our Madison location has two
private dining rooms that accommodate up to 80 people in one room, and up to
40 people in the other," Bryan says. "One is designed with 1950s décor, and
the other is set up as an old general store."
The Hughes family is proud of what they’ve accomplished
from their humble beginnings. "I’m very proud of the way we’ve been able to
impact former employees’ lives by helping them open their own OH! Bryan’s
restaurants, and that I get to work with my wife everyday," Bryan says. "Our
goal over the next five years is to open four or five more restaurants."
For more information, contact OH! Bryan’s Family Steak
House at (256) 325-2792 or visit www.ohbryans.com. Restaurant hours are

Providence, each of the homes that the company builds in this area lends to
the neighborhood community atmosphere. "I like the quality and craftsmanship
in the homes and the way they accent the community by creating not only a
neighborhood, but also a way of life, The Providence Lifestyle," B.T. says.
He adds, "Most of the homes constructed in The Village of Providence
(developed by David and Todd Slyman) are uniquely designed by Building
Science Associates, Bob Martignoni, and built following strict guidelines to
the pattern book written by Stephen A. Mouzon."
B.T. Neely Construction, Inc. goes above the norm with
each house they build. Donny Smith, for whom B.T. built a private estate
home, says, "Brant is trustworthy, and a man of integrity. He was always
candid with me in the building of our custom home. I have recommended him to
three other people since he completed our home."

new construction," Fox says. "We are professionally equipped and staffed to

Thompson Landscape Group strives to create distinctive

Room’s exclusive Comfort 365® glass is a
high-performance, energy-efficient glass that helps keep the heat in during
the winter, and the heat out during the summer. The secret is a high-tech

of premature fading of carpet, furniture, and drapes. Comfort 365®
glass is standard in all Champion windows and patio rooms. But Champion
doesn’t just do windows. The company also creates exquisite patio rooms that
allow homeowners to enjoy their backyard in complete comfort, year-round.

barbecue. That’s up to you.
"We can build everything from a very basic to a very
extravagant sunroom," Zarzaur says. "We will even install heating and air
conditioning, if that’s what a homeowner wants."
Along with windows and patio rooms, Champion also

Lewis and Son Roofing & Construction*
YOU can, and have depended on us for 50 years!
Lewis and Son Roofing & Construction has been a company
you can depend on for your residential and commercial roofing needs and
remodeling projects for the past 50 years. "Lewis & Son is an established
family business with a solid commitment to serving our customers," President
Shane Lewis states. "You can count on us being here!"
With the recent hailstorms in Spring 2006, many houses in
the area received damage, and Lewis and Son has been there with professional
service. "Don’t be fooled by ‘Storm Chasers’, companies that appear after a
roof-damaging storm, or by out-of-town roofing companies," Shane says. "The
insurance companies tell us that over 30,000 homes were damaged in
the hailstorms. Many homeowners have contacted us, and we have provided, and
are still providing, free written estimates to everyone who has called. We
will physically examine each roof. We’ve been extremely busy fixing and
replacing roofs, and will continue to be busy through the end of this year."
Immediately after the hailstorm, Lewis and Son received
almost 150 calls a day from potential clients wanting estimates, and they
are still receiving calls daily. "Even now, in the late summer, we are still
receiving 40 to 50 calls a day," Shane comments.
Lewis and his staff properly install top-quality
products, never use a subcontractor for jobs, and have all of their staff
covered by Worker’s Compensation Insurance. "Unlike many roofing companies,
we carry Worker’s Compensation Insurance on our employees," Shane states.
"This safeguards the homeowner from liability, but means our labor costs a
little more money. If an injury or death occurs to the worker while working
on someone’s roof, we assume this responsibility and not the homeowner."
Lewis and Son works on more than 500 roofs per year, and
uses top-quality roofing materials, such as GAF. The company provides a
one-year, money-back guarantee on leak repairs, and offers outstanding
warranties. Lewis and Son goes above and beyond what most other roofing
companies provide, with a 10-year warranty on replaced roofs, and the GAF
roofs come with a 10-year to lifetime house warranty, depending on the
roofing material used. "We can’t afford to do a poor job," Lewis states. "We
won’t use million dollar labor and two-dollar materials. We won’t risk our
reputation. We want our customers to be happy and satisfied!"
Another service Lewis and Son provides is remodeling
work, such as replacing windows and doors, installing siding, and building a
deck on your house. True to its philosophy, Lewis and Son always uses
top-quality products, such as Ellison Windows, James Hardie Siding, and Trex
Decking and Railing.
Lewis and Son has received many compliments on its
roofing and remodeling projects. Russell Manuel of Madison, AL says, "Your
employees were very professional, and made the wall and ceiling look like
new again. Your company has truly earned an excellent reputation, and I will
pass that information on to anyone I know."
Lewis and Son Roofing & Construction is a member of the
National Federation Independent Business Organization, the
Huntsville/Madison County Home Builders Association, and the National
Roofers Contracting Association. For more information, contact the company

Brad Williams, Financial Services*
SeniorsLTC Becomes Brad Williams, Financial Services
Owner, Brad Williams of Brad Williams, Financial
Services, formerly SeniorsLTC, offers his clients the same great service
with a brand new name! Williams decided to change his company name recently
to more accurately reflect the services he provides. "I have renamed
SeniorsLTC to Brad Williams, Financial Services to more fully reflect
the broad range of services that I, with the assistance of Tarkenton
Financial, can provide to my clients," Williams states.
Williams originally founded the company to help senior
citizens protect and preserve their assets. This financial services company
focuses on showing seniors how to increase their quality of life and gain
peace of mind by taking control of their finances. Williams serves his
clients by showing them ways to reduce or eliminate taxes on interest income
and capital gains, and how to earn the best rates of return on savings
without risking principle. He provides consultation on Home Equity
Conversion Mortgages, also known as Reverse Mortgages.
Williams’ clients speak positively and enthusiastically
about the financial services Brad provides. Hubert C. states, "Brad
is an excellent financial advisor." Mary Y. comments, "Brad has handled my
retirement accounts for the past three years. He is very thorough and keeps
me well informed about them. We get together for regular reviews to keep my
plans on track. I would recommend him to anyone, as he is an asset to all of
his clients." And Barbara W. adds, "I feel very comfortable with Brad’s
recommendations, and his commitment to professionalism and continuing
education. He is a pleasure to work with, and I recommend him to my friends
and family."
Since potential long-term care costs represent one of the
greatest threats to retirement assets, Williams provides an extensive
analysis and comparison service for long-term care insurance. Initially, he
assists you in determining whether or not you even need long-term care
insurance. Then, he utilizes his state-of-the-art computer software program
to shop all companies’ policies. During this evaluation, his software will
compare rates, and review each policy’s language and benefits. It then
numerically ‘scores’ each policy. With this information in hand, the tedious
process of selecting a long-term care insurance policy is simplified.
As an authorized representative of Tarkenton Financial
(which was founded by former Minnesota Vikings Hall of Fame quarterback,
Fran Tarkenton), Williams concentrates on developing preservation and
advancement strategies for clients. Tarkenton Financial is a wealth
management company devoted to helping seniors preserve their assets and
eliminate financial stress. In advising clients, Williams uses the ‘Compass
Plan’ (a Tarkenton Financial proprietary tool) to mathematically design
retirement plans that show his clients how to avoid outliving their income.
Additionally, through continued, advanced education, Williams has earned
certification from Ed Slott as an IRA Distribution Specialist, as well as
the designation of Certified Senior Advisor.
Brad Williams presents his ideas for assisting clients
during a FREE monthly workshop, with a meal. And he offers a one-hour,
no-obligation consultation to review your situation. Brad Williams,
Financial Services is located at 2315 Market Place, Suite A in
Huntsville, AL 35801. Contact Brad Williams by phone at (256) 536-3075, or

McDonald Bros. Construction/Holly McDonald, REALTOR*
Holly McDonald: Award-winning Producer
Success is a McDonald tradition with Holly McDonald,
REALTOR, at Keller Williams Realty and the family business, McDonald Bros.
Construction. After a successful career in the communications field, Holly
changed her career to real estate in 2004, and joined Keller Williams in
2005. Shortly thereafter, she was recognized for outstanding service by
being named a ‘Top Shooting Star’ in 2005 and receiving the ‘Third Highest
Written Volume’ Award in February 2006 at Keller Williams.
Her experience and love for helping her clients are keys
to her success. "I love what I do, and I think my clients see that," Holly
says. "It is a blessing to work with, and assist people in this capacity."
And, her clients agree. "Holly McDonald is one of the
most energetic real estate agents I have ever come across," states Charles
Durodola. "Without her as my agent, I would have been lost in the housing
shuffle."
Another client, Andy and Wendy Wilson, adds, "This was
our first house buying experience, and she was extremely helpful throughout
the entire process. She put our minds at ease, and made sure we found the
right home. When we are ready to ‘move up’, Holly will be the person we
call."
Holly’s husband, Dell, also knows success first-hand,
with the family’s four decades of expertise in the general contracting
business at McDonald Bros. Construction. S.O. McDonald, Dell’s father, and
his brother Charles, founded the company in 1961, and Dell is now the Vice
President and General Superintendent. "We handle site preparation,
underground utilities, concrete installation, demolition, blasting, clearing
land, and truck hauling of dirt and stone," Dell says. Some of their work

headquarters, and Huntsville High School.

Manager Mil White says.
The company’s goal is to provide an entire package, from

EnviroSafe*
For the Love of Family
Terrell Nixon of EnviroSafe, originally started his
company for his family, and over the years, realized that he could help
others provide a safe and healthy home environment for their families with
professional cleaning services for mold, mildew, bacteria, and allergens.
Terrell, a Huntsville, AL native and a true family man, spent five years in
the U.S. Navy, and traveled around the country opening up companies for
several national franchises. "In 1994 I wanted to find a position that would
allow me to spend more time with my family," Terrell says. "Upon suggestions
of family and friends, I started my own company. I originally went into the
cleaning business, more on the pressure washing side, and I picked up a
reputation for doing specialty jobs. I took it as a challenge to find out
how to best get the job completed to the customer’s requirements."
A few years later, Terrell began working with restaurant
professionals that needed inside cleaning done. With their assistance,
Terrell purchased the equipment needed to clean the exhaust hood system.
After four years of hood and kitchen cleaning, mostly done at night, Terrell
focused on finding better ways to help customers with mold problems. "I came
across Caltex International’s patented system," Terrell says. "After talking
to Caltex, I decided to try it. That was one of the best business and life
decisions I have ever made."
Staying true to the reason why Terrell started his own
business, that being his family, he sold the night portion of the business
and focused on offering safe ways to remove mold from crawlspaces, roofs,
decks, fences, brick, and siding. Terrell enjoys the results he sees after a
job is completed, and believes his service can benefit everyone. "As a
family man myself, I love my family, and I enjoy helping other people take
care of their families," he says.

Moving
Forward to Get the Job Done
Warren Trucking and Excavators is moving forward to get
the job done with top-quality excavating and long-haul trucking services.
Owner, Warren Jamar, a Huntsville native, started his company in 1995 after
working in the industry and deciding to take a leap of faith and venture out
on his own.
Jamar, who has 24 years of experience in the heavy
equipment and on-site land preparation industry, recalls having basically
nothing—just a few pieces of equipment—when he first started. "When I first
started out, I had one dump truck, and today we have several pieces of heavy
equipment and trucks for our long-haul trucking services," Jamar says. "I’m
most proud of starting from scratch and building the business up to where it
is today."
Now with six staff members and the support of his wife,
Twanda, Jamar has seen his business grow. He contributes his success to
providing his clients with outstanding service that is on time. "I believe
in giving the customer what they want and when they want it," he states.
"Our work requires hard work, going the extra hours, and we keep going when
others shut down."
Warren Trucking and Excavators provides on-site land
preparation services for general contractors, homebuilders, and residential
customers. Jamar and staff clear land and trees to get the home site ready
before the construction starts, and works with a variety of homebuilders in
the area, such as Pollard Homes.
For the long-haul trucking service, Jamar provides
service to 48 states, moving products and heavy equipment for such companies
as Shoney’s Restaurant. "We haul everything from refrigerated products to
heavy equipment," Jamar says.

Five Points Chiropractic and Wellness Center*
Natural Ways to
Help Re-energize Your Body
Owner, Dr. Dave McCann of Five Points Chiropractic and
Wellness Center, offers patients a variety of ways to help re-energize and
restore balance to their bodies. Dr. McCann, a licensed chiropractor since
1997, incorporates traditional chiropractic procedures with nutrition,
supplementation, and detoxification to help bring balance to your body.
Dr. McCann enjoys learning new ways to help his patients,
and attends several continuing education seminars each year. After attending
a nutrition and detoxification seminar six years ago, he saw the importance
of both and added these elements to his practice. Two services he offers to
help detoxify the body include the EB 305 Footbath and the Standard Process
Purification Product Kit with whole food and organic vitamins and
supplements. "It’s very important that we cleanse ourselves inside and out,"
Dr. McCann says. "We need to cleanse our bodies, just like an oil filter in
your car needs to be changed to run better."
The EB 305 Footbath is designed to help restore the
body’s energy balance. It works like a powerful magnet to help draw toxins
out of the body and support the body’s natural detoxification process. The
Purification Kit is a three-week nutritional program designed to help
cleanse the liver, gall bladder, kidneys, and bowels with all-natural
products.
Dr. McCann establishes specific treatment programs for
each patient with organic, whole food products and the EB305 footbath…or
both, depending on the patients needs. He puts each patient on a monitored
program, and evaluates the patient and the product results on a regular
basis. "I approach each patient differently," he says. "Not everyone is the
same, and each person has specific needs. We tailor a monitored program to
evaluate the patient and how the products are working."

SEME Resources: Concrete Retaining Walls*
Today’s concrete technology takes the term ‘retaining
wall’ to a new dimension. Whether holding back mother earth, keeping the
water in the lake, or simply adding a touch of beauty, concrete retaining
walls are a landscaper’s dream. They are made from environmentally safe
materials and, since they are manufactured and sold locally, availability is
never a problem.
These concrete segmental retaining walls are perfect for
building lakefront property seawalls where the constant force of water can
ravage scenic waterfronts. Because they are made of concrete, these walls
ensure that the waterfront homeowner will spend free time pursuing leisure
activities rather than worrying about maintenance and repair.
To learn more about building a segmental retaining wall
made of concrete, contact the Alabama Concrete Industries Association at
(800) 732-9118 or visit the web site at

SEME Resources: Smart Surface* Today, business owners and professionals, like Dr. Billy
Foxworth Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama, are choosing concrete for their parking
areas. There are many reasons for this. Dr. Foxworth explains, "I built a
concrete parking lot for my dental office because the cool, white color
looked good with my building. I wanted my new dental office to stand apart
from the rest, and my new concrete parking lot helped me achieve that goal."
This surge of interest in the value of concrete as a
paving material for parking areas has moved the Alabama Concrete Industries
Association to brand quality concrete pavement under the name ‘Smart
Surface’. To ensure that the end user gets exactly what he or she is looking
for, ACIA has established some simple guidelines for the ready mix company,
the concrete finisher, and the end user. If followed, these guidelines will
ensure that the ‘Smart Surface’ is the smart choice for parking areas.
Concrete, installed using ACIA’s guidelines, truly is the
‘Smart Surface’. It remains cool in the summer and reflects light for
safety, and is kind to the environment and the maintenance budget.
To learn more about the advantages of the new ‘Smart
Surface’ concrete paving, contact John Sorrell at ACIA at (800) 732-9118, or

Liz Hurley Ribbon Run Raises Funds for Breast MRI*
(NP)
Join WAFF news anchor, Liz Hurley, and Huntsville
Hospital Foundation in the fight against breast cancer! On Friday, October
20, Carrabba’s Italian Grill will cook up a pre-race spaghetti supper for
runners and guests. Then on Saturday, October 21, the Foundation and the
Huntsville Track Club will host the 3nd
Annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run. The Ribbon Run features a 5K run for men and
women, plus a Survivors’ Walk to honor those who have struggled with breast
cancer.
Team up with 10 of your friends to represent your
business, club, church, or other group. Group participation is a great way
to build team spirit, while recognizing the courage of those who have fought
breast cancer. Awards are given to the teams that have the most registered
participants in each category.
All proceeds from the Ribbon Run benefit the Liz Hurley
Breast Cancer Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation, and will help purchase
a Breast MRI for Huntsville Hospital’s Breast Center. The Breast MRI
provides a high-resolution image without radiation, and can be used in
addition to mammography or ultrasound. The Breast MRI promotes earlier
detection of breast cancer, and aids in detection and treatment of complex
cases. The Breast Center is the only facility in the region with total
digital mammography, and has one of only two fellowship-trained breast
radiologists in the state. Advances like these allow women a better chance
at beating breast cancer.
Do your part in the fight against breast cancer and register for the
Ribbon Run today! Race day volunteers are also needed. If you are interested
in running or volunteering, please call Amanda Hicks at the Foundation,
265-8077, or visit our web site,
www.huntsvillehospital.org/foundation/events/ribbonrun. Your support
will make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients across north
Alabama and south central Tennessee!

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)*
(NP)
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a grassroots organization with over
400 entities throughout our nation. The mission of the organization is to
stop drunk driving, support victims of this violent crime and prevent
underage drinking. More than 17,000 people are killed each year and over
half a million are injured by this preventable crime. In 2004, 442 people
were killed in alcohol related crashes in Alabama. MADD is not opposed to
the consumption of alcohol but stresses the responsibility one must accept
while operating a vehicle.
MADD is most active in North Alabama supporting victims
of this crime by offering free services by trained victim advocates. This
includes support groups, information on the judicial system, accompaniment
to court, and grief materials. Many of MADD’s victim advocates are
themselves victims/survivors and understand firsthand the problems and needs
of the victim.
Education and public awareness are priorities of MADD.
Many schools in North Alabama have been recipients of MADD’s multimedia
programs. Another educational opportunity provided in this area is the
Victim Impact Panel. Many judges are now sentencing DUI offenders to hear a
Victim Impact Panel. On these panels are victims who tell their stories
about how drunk driving changed their lives. In a non-threatening way these
stories place names and a face on statistics and help the offender
understand the risks they take when they choose to drive intoxicated.
Since its organization in 1980, MADD has been instrumental in helping
pass thousands of drunk driving laws. MADD continues to encourage the
passage of bills that will help end this senseless crime. MADD encourages
everyone to join this organization of dads and daughters, sons and uncles,
friends and neighbors. And mothers. Members are of all ages and from all
walks of life. MADD is an organization of many colors with one voice. For
more information contact MADD at 800-635-0722 or visit the MADD web site at

Scholastic’s The Magic School Bus Kicks
Up A Storm at Sci-Quest*
(NP)
Seatbelts, everyone! Get ready to burn some rubber when
Scholastic’s The Magic School BusTM
Kicks Up a Storm blasts off September 30 at Sci-Quest! Based on the
Emmy-winning television series, this unique traveling exhibit invites you
and your family to climb aboard the bus with Ms. Frizzle and learn more
about weather.
To make learning about weather fun, The Magic School
BusTM has been
magically transformed into a flying weather observatory. Inside, your entire
family can learn about the weather conditions that Tennessee Valley
residents know well – rain, wind, thunderstorms and one condition kids wish
they saw more often – SNOW! Measure lightning and discover how it’s
produced, watch a thunderstorm be created before your eyes, build a
snowflake, mix up your own weather, and create weather tools.
You can even explore Ms. Frizzle’s classroom, which is
filled with unique science projects created by her students. Each project
will give your family the hands-on experience that only Scholastic’s The
Magic School BusTM can. Even Liz the lizard has something to share! In Liz’s Weather Friends,
learn how animals relate to weather conditions through the experiences of
her feathered and furry friends.
Next, take a field trip to Ms. Frizzle’s hometown of
Walkerville. You and your family will visit Walkerville’s own weather
center, where the whole family can be meteorologists, observing and even
reporting the weather!
What are you waiting for? Grab you coats and umbrellas,
and join Ms. Frizzle for an adventure in weather at Scholastic’s The
Magic School BusTM Kicks Up a Storm!
Also, don’t miss Spooktacular Science, a
month-long celebration of science with a Halloween twist, each weekend in
October.

Women's Business Center of North Alabama Selects 2006 Small Business Start-Up of the Year*
(NP)
Living Art Water Gardens was selected as the
2006 Small Business Start-up of the Year. It was the first year the WBCNA
offered the award, which was created as a way to recognize small-business
owners who implemented best practices to improve their chance for success.
"Statistics show that the majority of small businesses fail within the first
few years, and expert opinions abound about what a business owner should and
shouldn’t do to keep a new business afloat, " according to Joanne Randolph,
WBCNA’s Executive Director. There are, however, several key factors that
contribute to small business failure:
-
Lack of an adequate, viable business plan
-
Poor marketing plan and insufficient sales to sustain
the business
-
Inadequate capital, misuse of capital or poor cost
control
-
Lack of industry-related experience and knowledge
-
Failure to seek professional advice (i.e., accounting,
legal, financial, etc.)
Bobbie Bright, owner of Living Art Water Gardens, said
there is a lot of support available for would-be entrepreneurs in the
Huntsville area. "I think part of our job as business owners is to let other
people know that there is help out there available,’’ Bright said. She found
that assistance at the Women’s Business Center shortly after winning a
contract from the Huntsville Botanical Gardens.
"We signed a contract and were just a little bit scared
of how we were going to operate our business for months,’’ Bright said last
week at a WBCNA luncheon, where the award was presented. She said the
Women’s Business Center helped her secure a working capital loan from the
Small Business Administration to offset the cost of the project.
Bright also talked about how a business plan helped,
along with seeking the advice of professionals such as accountants, lawyers
and bankers. And she’s also a big believer in the power of networking. She
won her company’s first job at a Chamber Business After-Hours event.
"Networking is by far, one of the best forms of advertising, costing very
little or no money,’’ Bright said. "Word of mouth is valuable.’’
Leaving the corporate world is probably the biggest step entrepreneurs
must take, giving up a comfortable paycheck and benefits to start a
business. But Bright knows it can be done: "The doors are open; people just
need to walk through them.’’

The Huntsville Depot Presents Two New Events: Ghost Hunts and Ghost Tours*
(NP)The Huntsville Depot, a museum within the EarlyWorks Museum
Complex, is one of the oldest structures in town and has played an important
role in the growth of the city. A hub of the city in the 1860s, the Depot
was also used as a prison after being taken over by the Union Army during
the Civil War. The walls of the Depot have a story to tell, and many say
that there may still be a few lost souls there to tell their stories. This
October, the Historic Huntsville Depot will be introducing two new public
events - Ghost Hunts and Ghost Tours. The community will have the
opportunity to explore the Depot in the darkness of the night, and learn the
history of one the most historic structures in our Huntsville. There have
been ghost stories told and published about the Depot for many years.
Huntsville will now join cities like New Orleans, Savannah, Charleston, and
many other cities across the country by offering this new and exciting
attraction to the growing nightlife downtown.

Junior Achievement of Norhtern Alabama*
(NP)
Is your
business or organization looking for a way to help your community?
If so, join the fun presenting Junior Achievement (JA)
programs for Madison County and Huntsville City schools during the week of
October 23 – 27. The JA in a Day event allows volunteers to present the K-5
grade programs in one day from 7:30am to 2:30pm in eight local schools.
Imagine obtaining all your community service hours in one day, plus having
fun with other employees from your company or organization.
JA does not charge the schools for these programs, which
are totally supported through corporate and individual donations and special
events. Sponsorships are available to support the JA in a Day program, which
will reach approximately 4,000 area students this school year. Several
companies, such as Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, Inc., Northrop Grumman, ERC,
Inc., TVA, and ADTRAN have already signed on as sponsors.
You can also be a sponsor by providing volunteers. If
your company can supply 18 to 57 volunteers, you can adopt an entire school.
For example, GE Fanuc has adopted New Hope Elementary and is making it a fun
company activity. They are providing a company van for transportation to and
from the school, wearing their company shirts, and providing company
giveaways to the students.
Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to
educating young people about business, economics, and free enterprise.
Through dedicated volunteer networks, JA provides in-school and after-school
programs for students in grades K-12. JA offers educational programs that
focus on nine key content areas: importance of education, workplace
readiness skills, business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship,
ethics/character, financial literacy, and career education/development.
Today, over 7 million students worldwide are served by Junior Achievement.

Huntsville Museum of Art*
(NP)
Huntsville’s growth is gaining attention across the country and is
redefining its image to those living in, and visiting Alabama. In 2006,
Huntsville was named one of America’s Hottest Cities by Expansion
Management Magazine.
Because the city is making such an impressive name for
itself, the Huntsville Museum of Art must also claim its spot as one of the
best in the state. In order to keep up with the pace of this ever-moving,
ever-developing city, the Museum must be just as competitive. By preparing
for tomorrow, the Museum is providing Huntsville with an attraction they can
be proud to call their own.
By featuring Café Baba, the Signature Gallery Museum
Store, Museum Academy, and the Children’s Community Gallery, the Museum
provides multiple reasons to visit and enjoy its many features.
The Museum is also thrilled with its exhibition calendar
for 2006. Lexus of Huntsville is honored to present Aftermath: mages
from Ground Zero by Joel Meyerowitz, which is currently on view
through October 22. This exhibition captures the emotionally
compelling images of a nation stunned by the terrorist attacks of 9-11. As
the only photographer granted unlimited access to Ground Zero, Joel
Meyerowitz documents the heroic efforts of recovery crews while also paying
tribute to the lives lost.
Linda McCartney’s Sixties: Portrait of an Era
runs November 5-January 14, 2007. During a profound era of music,
motion and change, Linda McCartney captured the rock ‘n roll spirit of the
Sixties. View memorable, black and white photographs of legendary
pop-culture icons such as the Beatles, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and the
Rolling Stones.
The Huntsville Museum of Art is located at 300 Church
Street South in downtown Huntsville. For more information, call (256)
