With four sisters in the house, there was no shortage of models on which an ambitious teenager named Mary Kaleal practiced her makeup application techniques. "I did their hair and makeup whenever a special occasion arose," Mary recalls.

Mary went on to receive her cosmetology license in the early 1980s, and worked in a plastic surgeon’s office in Cleveland, Ohio, hitting the scene about the time permanent cosmetic makeup was becoming mainstream.
