Behind-the-Scene Stars
What has made the Huntsville Stars, minor league affiliate of
the Milwaukee Brewers, so successful is its "behind-the-scene" stars. General
Manager Buck Rogers and his wife, Babs, recently joined the staff and work with
an all-star group. "There are quality people here and we look forward to kicking
it up a notch with some new promotions and serious fun for the fans," Rogers
states.
Rogers’ baseball background started as a fan sitting in the
cheap seats at the local Minor League team’s games outside of Fort Bragg, North
Carolina. After his medical discharge from the U.S. Army, he joined the staff
and since has worked with the Daytona Cubs, Brevard County Manatees, and the
Washington Nationals.
Office Manager Earl Grilliot started with the Stars in 1990 and
joined full time in 2000. "We’re a fun, family-oriented, reasonably priced venue
and we want everyone to have fun at our party," Grilliot comments.
Eric Laue, Director of Ticketing, joined the Stars in November
2005 and enjoys the interaction with the fans. Matt Price, a Huntsville native
and Director of Promotions, has been a Stars fan since he was young. "I see the
younger fans at the ballpark and remember coming to Stars games when I was their
age," Price states. "I’m working for my hometown baseball team and it just
doesn’t get any better."
The 2008 regular season starts April 3 and some of the upcoming
promotions and events include guest singers performing "Take Me Out to the Ball
Game" during each home game, a NL Rookie of the Year Ryan Braun bobblehead, and
Corey Hart replica jersey giveaways. "We’re going to have more participation and
interaction with our fans, so they’re more than just spectators," Rogers
says.
